NEW DELHI: In a bid to show solidarity with the Pulwama martyrs and their families, a several decades old trader association in Bhagirath Palace, Chandni Chowk, has decided not to celebrate Holi this year. The association will rather raise fund for the welfare for the martyrs’ families this year.

“Pulwama attack has jolted all of us, we were in deep grief and also the feel pain of our brave jawans and their families who had given supreme sacrifice for our nation. On February 21, our association had a meeting where we all had decided to postpone Holi milan event to next year as a mark of homage to the martyrs,” said Ravinder Kumar Gupta, secretary , Delhi Electrical Traders Association (DETA), Chandni Chowk.

He further added, there are more than 1600 shops here in Chandni Chowk area and our association is in touch with them for this noble cause.

“We used to organise Holi here for generations but this would be the first time we have skipped it as a tribute to our armed forces.”

“We have already raised a fund of rs 3 lakh as of now and when people will assemble here they are likely to contribute more money,” he added.
