New Delhi: A Nigerian national along with his Indian girlfriend have been arrested for allegedly duping people on the pretext of providing them jobs abroad, police said on Saturday.

Imasaun Henry Omor-ogby and his girlfriend Sheela Dey have been running a scam using fake bank accounts and data from various websites to lure people on the pretext of providing them employment, they said.

According to the police, their modus operandi was to send emails to job seekers regarding employment opportunities outside India. Once they gained the confidence of the victims with attractive job offers, the duo would ask the victims for money for visa processing, work permit application, immigration and travel expenses.

When job seekers would deposit the money in their bank account, the duo would vanish with the money, police said. Based on a complaint filed by one of the victim, a special team was constituted and subsequently the two were arrested, police added.

During interrogation, Henry revealed that he came to India in 2012 on an education VISA and was studying M.A. (Polit-ical Science) from Osma-nia University, Hyder-abad. In the year 2013, he met Sheela, and he learnt the art of duping innocent person from her. Sheela’s ex-boyfriend Ikena, was also a Nigeri-an national, and is prese-ntly in Nigeria, said the police.
