New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal on Tuesday visited the six-year-old rape survivor who is presently undergoing treatment in ICU of a government hospital in Delhi.

She appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and court to award death penalty to minor girl rape culprits.

On Saturday, a transgender allegedly kidnapped the girl, while she was playing near the Kali Mandir, Minto Road and raped her. The family was living on footpath near the Kali Mandir. After being unable to find her, her parents raised an alarm and reported her as missing.

Ms Maliwal said, "The child is in a very bad condition. I am horrified to meet her. This is one of the worst cases I have come across so far and the problem becomes even more grave considering that the girl is homeless. The commission will ensure her rehabilitation."

The girl was found around 11.30 pm at night in a pool of blood and was rushed to the hospital. She was injured and was bleeding profusely. The girl was operated upon quickly. The operation lasted for more than four hours.

"At present, she is in a critical condition as her internal organs have been severely damaged. She may take a long time to recover from the brutal assault. Her parents are from a economically backward background. Her father is a rickshaw puller and her step-mother is a beggar, said Ms Maliwal.

She added, the commission is releasing immediate monetary assistance to them and will take steps to ensure rehabilitation of the girl.

Further, the commission will file an application in the court for immediate release of compensation to the victim.
