New Delhi: The Delhi police may be making claims of enhanced surveillance across the city, but shockingly over a dozen CCTVs have been dysfunctional in the high-security India Gate area for the last two days. This was found when the CCTVs failed to capture a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run case. The India Gate area is on high alert ahead of January 26.

The incident was reported at 10.16 pm on Thursday night at the crossing opposite India Gate when a WagonR hit a Etios from the rear. When the driver of the WagonR tried to flee from the spot, he rammed a bike and a car. The biker received serious leg injuries, said an eyewitness.

“Even though it happened in front of a PCR van and other policemen who are deployed at the India Gate, no one voluntarily came forward to help. I made a PCR call for the injured biker. Then only, the same PCR van that was deployed just across the road came to help,” said an eyewitness who called PCR. One of the victims, who did not wish to be named said that he went to Tilak Marg police station to register a compliant and identify the registration number of the errant car driver, he was shocked to find that all CCTVs installed in and around India Gate were dysfunctional.
