New Delhi: The Delhi University (DU) has started witnessing the electoral mood with the ABVP focusing on the topic of nationalism and NSUI’s (National Students’ Union of India) agenda being democracy in campus for the upcoming DU Students’ Union (DUSU) election.

According to a DU source, while the RSS-affiliated ABVP will start pre-campaigning from August 17 or 18, the Congress student wing, NSUI, will launch their manifesto on August 17.

Chattra Yuva Sangharash Samiti (CYSS), the student wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), will not be contesting the varsity elections this year too. However, it would be focusing on elections only at the college level.

Similarly, the Left-bac-ked AISA (All-India Stud-ents’ Association) will be seen raising issues such as freedom of speech, seat cuts, and hostel.

“The election committee has been formed to look after the elections scheduled for September and the election schedule is expected to be out by August 16,” the source said.

BJP’s student wing ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) has been ruling DU Students’ Union for the past four years. Even last year ABVP had won three seats out of four and this year their ideological focus will be on nationalism.

While ABVP would be working on special issues related to DU such as special chance, U-special buses, discount in Metro fares, hostels, girls’ common room, and basic infrastructure, NSUI would be dividing their manifesto into three sections.

“The first section will be democracy and freedom of campus. Secondly, the student wing will focus on providing an equal status to all the colleges in DU such as the off-campus colleges.

“Thirdly, they want Delhi University fees to be reduced and made equal for all the colleges. Apart from this, the issues of university special bus, Metro fare, and hostel will also be in focus,” the source added.
