New Delhi: In yet another case of capital shame, four men were arrested for allegedly brutally thrashing a woman and holding her hostage inside her house after she objected to their publicly drinking alcohol. The incident, which took place on Tuesday night, was reported from northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar.

The accused were identified as Harkesh Rajbhar, Arjun Kumar, Sanjay Rai and Chanderpal. The official said that the victim lives in Sarai Pipalthala area along with her family and is a housewife.

“All the four accused were drinking alcohol near the victim’s house. She asked them not to drink publicly. This made the accused angry and they hurled abuses at her. They also tried to manhandle her. When the victim objected to their attempts they got furious,” the official said.

When they turned violent, the police said, the victim ran inside her house but the accused followed her. Then they held her hostage and thrashed her.

The accused fled after the woman raised an alarm and the police was informed. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical check up. “We have recorded her statement and lodged a case under various Sections of IPC with the local police station. All the accused were later arrested from the area,” the police said.

The official said that Chanderpal is a local resident of the area. He had called his three friends — Harkesh, Sanjay and Arjun — all resident of Daryaganj. The police said they were checking their previous records.
