Doorstep plan got massive response: Govt

New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday launched his government’s ambitious doorstep delivery of services scheme, under which 40 services, including the driving licence, marriage registration certificate, water connection documents among others will be provided to the people at the comfort of their homes. The services will be provided for an extra fee of Rs 50 to the citizens.

“We always heard of pizza being home-delivered, but now one can dial the government and the government will come home,” tweeted Mr Kejriwal, calling his AAP government’s scheme a “revolutionary, historic step”.

Mr Kejriwal said 30 more services will be included in the project in the next one-month and the number will rise to 100 in two-three months. Delhi residents can dial 1076 to place a request for doorstep delivery of services which will be provided from 8 am to 10 pm. However, the call centre, set up to facilitate delivery of services, will function round the clock.

The scheme, according to the city government, received a massive response on the day of the launch and by 6 pm, the total number of calls received were 2,728 out of which 1,286 were answered. The government said that looking at the response received by the scheme, the number of lines of the helpline number 1076 were being increased to 120 from 50.

“There were as many as 21,000 attempted calls on the helpline number 1076 which were unable to connect due to heavy traffic,” a Delhi government statement said.
