African woman strips in Delhi Metro

New Delhi: Under the shadow of racial discrimination against African nationals in Delhi NCR region, another incident of alleged racism against African women has come to light recently. The incident reportedly took place in Delhi Metro and was filmed by unknown person where two African women got into a brawl with male passengers. The said video has gone viral on social media, in which the men can be seen outraging against the women, hurling abuses at them, shouting “bahar nikaalo (throw them out).”

In order to protest against the quarrelling passengers, one of the women took off her top, before she was calmed by another man who said, “Don’t do this.” The woman, who stripped challenged the men, said, “You wanna fight, come let’s fight.” The reason behind the brawl remains unclear. However, eyewitnesses said that the spat started because of seats. Terming the crowd behaviour as ‘indecent’, a member of African national student union said, “I have seen the video and found it disturbing. Irrespective of any community, race, religion and region, a woman must be treated with dignity and respect. Here in this video, these two women were ill treated by the crowd. It is painful and raises the question of the civil society here. We are also human beings and have the equal rights to live with peace and dignity. Such incidents should not take place anywhere in India or any party of world,” said Arnold Mutombo, a member of Association of African Students in India,, Delhi

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said that they not received any complaint against this issue. “DMRC has not received any complaint on this issue, which seems to have been sorted out among the passengers. In case any issue is brought to our notice the DMRC takes appropriate action,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

The Delhi police has not received any complaint regarding this matter.
