New Delhi: Thousands of commuters faced severe hardship on Friday as the Delhi Metro train services on the Violet Line were affected between the Kashmere Gate and Central Secretariat stations for around 90 minutes owing to a glitch in the over head electrification (OHE).

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), there was intermittent OHE tripping on the up line section between Central Secretariat and Mandi House (towards Kashmere Gate). A DMRC official said that train services were affected between 8.34 am and 10.02 am

“There was intermittent OHE tripping on the up line section between Central Secretariat and Mandi House. As a result, services were running on single line from Kashmere Gate to Central Secretariat during this period so that the OHE staff could identify the section and rectify the situation,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

“The problem was rectified at 10.02 am and normalcy restored in the affected section. Services on the rest of Line 6 — from Central Secretariat to Escorts Mujesar section — were running normally during this period,” the spokesperson added.

“Trains were stopping at each station for 10 to 15 minutes. It took around half an hour for the train to cross just two stations. Also, trains were arriving very late at the Rajiv Chowk station, leading to huge crowding on the platforms,” said Bharti Raturi, a daily commuter .

“The train kept stopping between stations and then for at least five minutes at each station,” said another commuter. Mohit Sharma, a commuter.
