New Delhi: Nine girls, including a minor, reportedly went missing from a government shelter home in Dilshad Garden area on Saturday night.

However, the authorities of Sanskar Ashram Girls claimed that they do not have a clue to how and when these girls went missing.

An FIR has been registered at GTB Enclave police station.  It was revealed that complaints have earlier been made on the functioning of the home, with accusations on the superintendent for subjecting a girl with special needs to severe abuse and corporal punishment.

Manish Sisodia, deputy chief minister of Delhi has directed the immediate suspension of Northeast District officer of the Department of Women and Child Development (WCD) and the Superintendent of SankarAshram Girls (SAG) home.

“A first information report (FIR) has been registered regarding the minor girl missing from SAG home and missing reports have been lodged for the eight major girls. We are investigating the matter and all efforts are being made to locate them,” deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said.

DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal stated that they are writing to Delhi police recommending investigation to be transferred to the Crime Branch of Delhi Police so that urgent action is taken to trace the girls.

These girls were victims of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation and the possibility of the traffickers and brothel owners kidnapping these girls in connivance with the Home authorities needs to be investigated in detail,” Maliwal stated in the official release.
