Chandragiri Fort, a historical monument in Kasaragod, is a place of interest to history enthusiasts. Located atop a hill at the confluence of the Payaswini River and Arabian Sea, this fort was built in the 17th century by Shivappa Nayaka of Bedanore, a popular ruler of the Keladi Nayaka Kingdom. What awaits travelers at this serene location is the panoramic view of the lush landscape down the hill. The fort is in ruins now.

More than the fort, what makes Chandragiri travelers’ favourite location is the beautiful sunset that could be viewed from the nearbay ancient Kizhur Siva Temple.

The boarding point is adjacent to the Chandragiri Bridge. Also, if one has time, walk into the Chandragiri Boat Club to ride speed boats and indulge in houseboat cruises, island camping and wildlife tours in the hinterlands. Fishermen near the Chandragiri Bridge are willing to take tourists to the backwaters.
