While they may make women feel more attractive, it turns out that women who have Botox have a serious disadvantage in the bedroom.

According to experts, those who smooth out their wrinkles with treatment are less likely to achieve orgasms.

The toxic injections paralyse the nerves, making it hard to produce some facial expressions.

According to psychologists at Cardiff University, that means they can’t always communicate to their partners that they are enjoying sex. This, in turn, affects sexual performance and has a knock on effect on the woman’s feelings of pleasure.

According to lead researcher Dr Michael Lewis, he likened the effect to people finding it difficult to feel blissfully happy without actually smiling.

Without full control of the facial muscles, women may struggle to actually achieve orgasm.

He said that facial expressions associated with orgasm utilise the same muscles targeted in typical botulinum toxin cosmetic treatments.

He added, “The predicted consequence of having treatment is that women may feel an orgasm to a lesser extent and may find it harder to reach climax. Analysis from our study suggests that’s what is happening.”

Researchers studied 36 women, 24 of whom had been treated with Botox, and then measured their “Female sexual function index orgasm satisfaction score.” The study found that those who had received the treatment had a marked drop in their satisfaction.

Writing in the journal Scientific Reports, Dr Lewis said: “Reduction of mobility of these muscles may interfere with the expression and feedback of excitement during sexual activity.”
