Reiterating its commitment to eliminate gender disparity in Indian politics and promising to bolster women’s participation across the political spectrum, the National Women’s Party (NWP) unveiled its election symbol, a gas stove allotted to it by the Election Commission of India. The Party is all set to contest more than 283 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“Social and economic upliftment of women and increasing political awareness among women remains our topmost agenda. It is only through equal political representation that women will have the power to realize their potential, assert their authority and play a central role in the growth and development of the country. We intend to bring a women-centric narrative in the country’s politics,” stated Dr. Swetha Shetty, M.B.B.S, Chairperson, National Women's Party.

With a view to bring like-minded women on a common platform and create a conducive ecosystem for rolling out women empowerment initiatives, the NWP announced alliance with All India Women United Party (AIWUP). NWP also launched its flag on the occasion. The Presidents of the Party’s state units were also introduced during the Delhi meet.

NWP was formed with the aim to ensure that women from all strata of society were brought within the political mainstream. The formation of NWP is a confluence of eminent women from all walks of life who want to make a difference to the political system of the country.

The party, which has been receiving an overwhelming response from all sections of society, has urged women from all walks of life to contest the forthcoming elections on its ticket. It feels that the time is apt for women to break outdated patriarchal barriers and play a key role in the political decision-making process.
