A Swedish pharmacy hopes to deter smokers from their set ways by installing a smart billboard that actually 'coughs' when someone tries to take a puff as they pass by. Many people were left surprised when the model onscreen reacted exactly the way a person suffocating from passive smoking would react.

The billboard is strategically located at Stockholm’s Odenplan square as people often smoke over there. The digital screen placed outside a metro station shows a simple photo of a male model at first. However if a smokers passes by it, the model onscreen immediately starts coughing as if bothered by the smoke.

The screen then changes again and advertises products that can help smokers kick the bad habit. The effect of the ‘coughing billboard’ was created by fixing smoke detectors to the screen.
