Though many dissuaded Kalaignanam not to make me a hero, he trusted me and offered me the film Bhairavi.

Superstar Rajinikanth may have indicated his entry into politics may not be too far away while recalling several instances in which he had not disappointed the people who kept faith in him.

“My guru K Balachander sir kept the name Rajinikanth with him for almost four years and wanted to give it only to a deserving actor.  He trusted and gave me the screen name and chose to make films with me. I have lived up to his expectations.  Similarly, when I boarded the train to Tamil Nadu for the first time, I lost my ticket by the time it reached the city.  The TTR wouldn’t allow me to go out of the station in spite of my repeated requests that I had bought the ticket and it was lost.  The porters took pity on me and told the ticket checker that the young boy's face indicated he is speaking only the truth. I was then let go by the TTR. That was that moment I decided that this state is my home and I should make it as an actor,” Rajini said to the delight of the audience.

Another personality he referred to in his reminiscences was ace writer and producer Kalaignanam, who was also present on the occasion. “Though many dissuaded him not to make me a hero, Kalaignanam sir trusted me and offered me the film Bhairavi. Similarly, the faith the people of TN have in me will not vanish,” he remarked, hinting he would serve them well in politics too.

Rajini had poked fun at the chief minister in the Kamal 60 event, saying how Edapaddi Palaniswami had become the chief minister through a miracle. But this time around, he was careful enough not to speak politics at the Darbar audio event. Instead, he thanked EPS for renting out the government owned Nehru Stadium for the event. Thousands of fans who may have gathered in the hoped their Thalaivar would make an official announcement about his political entry on the occasion had to return disappointed, as the star did not spell out any such thing in his speech.

The 70-year-old actor went on to say, “After watching Ramanaa, I loved the content and wanted to do a film with AR Murugadoss. After he made Ghajini, there were talks for collaboration. But, somehow it didn’t materialise. At one stage, I decided to play roles to suit my age and I did Kabali and Kaala. Karthik Subbaraj broke that with Petta (laughs). Within a week, ARM approached me and finally, Darbar happened. I play Adithya Arunachalam, a retired police officer in a very powerful role. Darbar will be one of the stylish thrillers among my movies.”

The Baasha actor informed fans that he will be away on his birthday on December 12 and requested them not to visit his house and get disappointed. Instead, he requested them to undertake in welfare activities.  He was also ready to take their wishes right there in advance. The crowd went into frenzy and celebrated their Thalaivar’s birthday by singing Happy Birthday in chorus before dispersing. Producer Subaskaran, composer Anirudh Ravichandran, Suniel Shetty, Nivetha Thomas, Yogi Babu, Shankar, Lawrence, Vivekh and lyricist Vivek were among those who graced the occasion. Lead actress Nayanthara was conspicuous by her absence.
