The Nooran sisters have performed numerous times in Delhi. Recently they were in the capital  for the performance in the second edition of the Sufi Route after being part of the same last year as well.  Day before the event, she reaches Andaz after taking her father to Ajmer Sharif and sits down to chat with us with enthusiasm even after the tiring journey.  When asked about what she expects from the audience on the next day’s show, she replies briefly but more than correctly, “We are coming a lot of new notes to the stage. Wish our audience like them.”

Since the sisters have been the face of Sufi singing, their feeling about performing in the event was a must know. But, Jyoti seemed to be calm on the outside before her performance. What she had to say was, “Felt good when came to know about the concept of Sufi Route as we started our journey with Sufi. Our family, our Gharana has always been about Sufi. So anything or any show related to Sufi music is always close to our heart. “

The Pataka Guddi duop is from Jalandhar but what the younger one likes best thing about Delhi is, “The people or rather the fans in Delhi appreciate us a lot. We are blessed that we get love wherever we dwell. But, whenever we perform in Delhi, whatever we sing for them, or whenever we sing according to their demand, we always get the vibe of their overwhelming joy. They dance with us and always try to cooperate with us indifferent to the situation.”

Taking credit for her talent is not in the nature of this young songstress. She believes that whatever she is today is because of the almightly and her elders. She shares, “There is Panch Peer Ghaus Paak Sarkar’s darbaar in our house, whose darbaar is also present in Baghddad Sharif, by his grace we became whatever we are today. When we were children, me and my elder sister Sultana, we didn’t have any clue that we are going to sing anytime soon.  One day we were humming something and our father somehow listened to us. I don’t know what he saw in us but he started giving us taleem. The betterment started slowly after that day.”

Sufi or Sufism is a word that is involved with everyone’s life. But, the importance of sufism in a person’s life is well explained by the Nooran sister, “Sufism is a name of a huge power. A lot comes under the term. Doesn’t matter how much you speak about Sufi, there is always more. The role that I think Sufi holds is that whomever you believe in, be it Wahe Guruji, Ishwar or Allah, you come a lot closer to the divine power when you start believing in Sufism. Banda bilkul Kamla ho jaata hain…”

Jyoti is in love with Ustad Nusrat fateh Ali Khan. She goes on and says that her father, Ustad Gulshan Mir, is her all time favourite. But they are not all that she has on her favourite’s list. Kishor Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle all are here favourite. Infact she confesses that she likes everyone’s singing. That is what makes her stand out of the crowd as she is ready to acknowledge everyone who put an effort and sings. But she I more close to those who are Sufi practitioners. On a special request she sings Nusrat sa’abs kalaam Tere bin nahin lagda dil mera dholna… and boy she is amazing.

Life is a lot different after marriage, as she says. Everyday starts with a new surprise. But the young talent has no plan of compromising with music anytime soon. While signing off she addresses her fans and says, “Always be blessed and keep loving and supporting us the way you have been showering since our initial days.”
