Whoever thought that trampolines were just for kids to play with can now simply join the bandwagon and try a variety of jump sets to stay fit themselves.

Mumbaikars are now adding a bounce to their mundane gym routines by adding a new twist to their regular fitness regimes.

Bored of the run of the mill gym cardio workouts, fitness enthusiasts are now opting for the trampoline workouts. A combination of streamlined jump sets, the workouts involve balanced jumping on a trampoline to stay fit, explains Madhuri Ruia, nutritionist, reboundologist and founder of Integym, Colaba.

The gym has introduced the workout as a part of their fitness regime.  “One can reap the benefits of bouncing, as this workout acts on the cells and tissues and helps in generating new cells. The lymphatic system improves a lot and it gives results like that of a high-end workout in a short span of time. Since the time we have started the workout, we have had many takers,” she shares.

Hetal Madhiwala started the work out regime at Freequencee studio in Hughes Road, her idea was to add a fun addition to the routine, “It’s always nice to mix-up various workouts and have a nice balance. We have a set-up installed and introduced it to add variations to the regular workouts.”

The jumps one performs on the trampoline are not just regular ones or jumping jacks but a combination of interesting jumps, “High jumping and fitness jumping are different ones altogether. Jumping workouts on a trampoline involve various balanced techniques. There is side-to-side bounce and trampoline squats to name just a few,” Madhuri says.

Homemaker Vinisha Tharani swears by the benefits of the workout. Troubled by her arthritis, she was looking for something less tedious and finally found something her body agreed to.

“I opted for it because I was bored of the high-intensity workouts and did not want something taxing. The trampoline workout doesn’t hurt my knee and back. The workout is not very hard on my body and I enjoy it. I blend it with other cardio exercises, it’s controlled jumping and I was trained by the trainers to learn the technique well. Another reason why I enjoy the workout so much is it is a healthy bounce and cools me off,” adds the 47-year-old homemaker, a regular at Madhuri’s fitness studio.

One can also combine the workout with weight training and other regular workouts. “It tones the body overall as it exerts greater gravitational pull on your body that helps in strengthening the core muscles. We use a half fold rebounder specially designed for this purpose, the spring loads matter and are important to avoid injuries.” Madhuri explains.
