With rising awareness people are giving more importance to what they eat and how it affects their health. But while a hearty meal can definitely make someone happy, does food have a larger impact on the brain?

Findings of a new research have revealed that bacteria live in the brain and they get there through a bloodstream from the gut. The revolutionary discovery was made when scientists were comparing brains of mentally healthy and schizophrenic people.

This can open doors to a completely new way of researching the effect of bacteria on human brain. Until now it was thought that anything getting through a membrane that protects the brain from bacteria can cause illness.

Earlier research has also branded the gut as our second brain because of the impact it has on our mood. But this discovery shows that the same bacteria may be affecting our gut and brain.
