Cutting down on calories is something people across the globe see as a way to achieve a certain body image. But it seems that fasting has a lot more to contribute to overall health and well being.

Research has revealed that having a low-fat diet plan with 40 percent fewer calories can significantly improve brain health. It reduces inflammation in brain cells and maintains the functioning of brain tissue.

The findings go on to suggest that cutting down calories does more for brain health than exercise. Meanwhile it isn’t clear if going on a low fat diet can actually reverse effects of consuming fatty food.

Brain-cell inflammation is linked to diseases like multiple sclerosis and Rasmussen’s encephalitis which can cause seizures and eventual dementia.
