These paintings by Aaron Johnson are made of socks and are called sock paintings. Johnson uses crusty, old, ragged socks in the most creative and effective manner possible to turn them into a medium of expression for his 3-dimentional artworks.

These paintings by Aaron Johnson are made of socks and are called sock paintings. Johnson uses crusty, old, ragged socks in the most creative and effective manner possible to turn them into a medium of expression for his 3-dimentional artworks. “The sweat-soaked, toe-nail-torn, holey socks create a painterly surface punctuated with orifices, phallic bulges, and a swirling seductive physicality,” said Johnson to the Huffington Post. The art might seem weird and absurd but will surely make you stare at his work for hours. Johnson had requested for sock donations for his paintings through social media websites. Socks, which have carried and witnessed a range of stories and incidents of people’s lives, were now used by this painter to vent his creative instincts and also create pictures carrying social messages as well. He has also exchanged socks with some of his original paintings to never fall short of his unusual canvas.
