In an event to inspire the youth in Mumbai, Karishma Mehta, founder of the popular Facebook page Humans of Bombay, in association with Open Bracket will be conducting a workshop. Karishma started the blog, in January 2014, on the lines of Humans of New York, where ‘common people’ share their inspiring stories. Today, HoB has more than six lakh likes.

Shedding light on the upcoming event Karishma says, “We have planned to split the session into two halves — one where we will have two live interviews and then an intimate interaction with the audience.” For those who are a regular on the Facebook page, Angad Daryani is not a stranger — the boy who dropped out of school, completed his board exams and currently owns two functioning companies. “Angad’s story has inspired several people, especially the fact the fact that his 3D printing Braille is immensely helping the visually impaired. The other interviewee is Poorva, a footballer, and she has never been featured on our blog before,” says Karishma, further adding, “She will tell her story of a woman footballer, and the struggles that she had to overcome being one. He story is different and very inspiring as well.”

Currently, Karishma is planning to expand the website with newer content and formats and promises “exciting things coming up”. In April, they had launched an eponymous book, a compilation of 365 stories of which about 100 are previously unpublished ones. “The book is like a like holding Bombay in your hands,” she says.

“The youth of today is breaking boundaries and doing great new things by stepping out of the box. They have the courage to bend the rules of convention as they carve their own niche. This live session will celebrate the eager ambitions and early successes of the youth of the city,” says Parnavi Karandikar from Open Bracket, explaining the impetus behind the theme of the event.

Open bracket, an experimental platform organise custom made workshops that stand firmly in the no man’s land between classroom lectures and professional training, though never shying from mandatory hops of fun.
