The public gym isn’t your personal space to ‘flex your muscle’ so here are a few basics that every man must follow in the gym to not inconvenience other members. Do not hog weights or focus on a single gym equipment with otherS waiting in line for the same. The rush at the gym usually is before and after the regular work timings so if you’re working out in that slot, learn to accommodate others.

Most people tend to leave weights lying around after use, so much that most gyms have a poster asking you not to. So make it a point to replace the weights where you took it from after use.

In an environment where you’re sweating it out, it’s advisable to bring your own hand towel to mop up or clean equipment after you’ve used them. No one wants to handle or use equipment that are sweaty.

Most people head to work from the gym and like to freshen up after their workout so make it a point to not take your own time in the shower. No one wants to be flashed during a gym workout so ensure you are wearing something appropriate while heading to the gym and ideally stick to gymwear.

You might have earned your six packs with rigorous workout but there’s no need to pull up your t-shirt and admire your six packs in the gym’s open area. And photography and selfies are a strict no. Save your phone calls for later. Holding onto gym equipment while making a phone call/texting with people waiting in line isn’t cool.

“Gym is more like a community so people must share and respect other members who are working out. We’ve had to stick a few posters in the gym to remind users of certain rules because it is important that every user feels comfortable while working out in the gym,” says Anbazhagan M., a gym trainer from Chennai.
