Book traces journey of the tiranga
The Shankar Lal Murlidhar auditorium was drenched in patriotic fervour. Tricoloured hand bands and flag pins were distributed to the guests entering the hall. The occasion was the launch of Commander K.V. Singh’s book All About The Flag of India.
Hosted by the Flag Foundation of India, the book was launched by Janardhan Dwivedi, Member of Parliament, and General Secretary of the Congress party. Eminent guests like Naveen Jindal, Member of Parliament and president of Flag Foundation of India and Shallu Jindal, vice-president, Flag Foundation of India, were present at the event. The book highlights all the important events and journey related to our national flag. “The book talks about the correct way of displaying the flag,” said Singh.
Jindal, who fought the Indian government regulations and won a Supreme Court case asking for a freer display of the flag by the Indian citizens, also spoke on the occasion. “When I was studying in USA, I saw people displaying the flag of their country with pride. When I returned, I realised that this was not the case in India and filed a PIL,” said Jindal.
The SC declared in 2004 that displaying the national flag was a fundamental right of every citizen throughout the year and not just on the Republic Day and Independence Day.
Talking about the activities of his foundation, Jindal said, “Our main vision is to popularise the display of the tiranga by the citizens of India, with a great sense of pride.”
Poets from various parts of the country regaled the audience with their poems written in the honour of the national flag.
