Alone, but not lonely
âItâs gone away to a town called Yesterday, love ainât here anymoreâŠâ Gary Barlow may have crooned soulfully indeed about the loss of love, and a doomed or unfulfilled romance has inspired many a musician, filmmaker or artist. But not our Bâtowners. The much-vaunted âDay of Loveâ may find them alone, but theyâre certainly not lonely.
So whether theyâre recuperating from a romance that went sour or simply not ready to be in a committed relationship just yet, Valentineâs Day wonât find Bâtownâs sexy singletons moping at home, with a doleful record or two for company.
For Bipasha Basu, the last year has been one of emotional upheavals galore. First, there was the rather public break-up with longtime beau John Abraham, and then reports of a troubled relationship with Rana Dagubatti. V-Day finds the Bong beauty in a mood to let down her hair and simply relax. âFor years, Iâve always been in a relationship. This Valentineâs Iâm single. I want to celebrate and flaunt my single status, so Iâm going to go all out and pamper myself today. I have a great set of friends who love me unconditionally, and Iâm looking forward to spending some quality time with them,â Bips says.
A night out with friends is just what the uber glam Sonam Kapoor has planned as well. While the buzz in industry circles is that Sonam has been dating her I Hate Luv Storys director Punit Malhotra, the actress hasnât ever corroborated the speculation. So celebrating with a âspecial someoneâ has an entirely different meaning for the actress. âIâve already planned my evening,â says an enthusiastic Sonam. âItâs my good friend Kariâs birthday, so my girl gang has organised a dinner for us. Iâm going to wear my best dress and try to look my best â just for myself. For us, a girlsâ night out equals a gala time, and thatâs exactly what this Valentineâs Day will be for me.â
The irony of their V-Day situation cannot fail to have escaped these Bâtownersâ attention: They regularly top âmost desirableâ and âIâd like to go on a date withâ lists, but a date is exactly what they wonât be going on today. And while they may not be too heartbroken, they certainly hope that the next year will allow them to plan an itinerary of a more romantic nature on February 14. âIâve always maintained that being in love is a great feeling,â says Shahid Kapur, who has seen his fair share of heartbreak in the recent past. âI believe in the concept of a long-term relationship. Iâm just waiting for the right girl, with whom I can share my thoughts and life with.â Now thatâs a V-Day wish we can all identify with.
