Stop tinkering

Apropos your editorial, Avoid tinkering with quotas (May 1). The reservation debate is never going to die. The Gujarat government’s promise to notify an ordinance to keep 10 per cent reservation for the Economically Backward Classes was made under pressure from the Patidar community. This will not only stir the reservation debate, but bring a backlash from existing backward communities. It’s time governments get rid of quotas in their entirety as every community’s demand cannot be fulfilled. So it is better not to tinker with existing quotas and prevent a deluge of demands by more communities.
