The launch of the seventh and last satellite of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System casts India as the fourth member of an elite club of countries with their own satellite navigation system. Having an indigenous navigation system would be useful when relations with other navigation-providing nations turn hostile. Re-christening it Navic points to the elaborate history of navigation.
