EC must step in

BJP’s UP vice-president Dayashankar Singh’s derogatory remarks about BSP chief Mayawati, saying her behaviour was worse than that of a prostitute, shows that it is not uncommon for politicians to go to any length to denigrate rivals. Although each party is making every possible effort to win the coming UP polls, that does not give any leader the right to insult others in such low fashion. Mr Singh has been expelled from the party for six years, but the EC must issue guidelines so that similar incidents do not recur.
