Discussion a must

Swapan Dasgupta, in his article To forget is costly (June 26), correctly highlights that today’s youth perceive the Emergency lightly precisely because of censorship imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975. The absence of documentation between 1975-77 has prevented the emergence of any new narrative or analysis of the event. The Congress’ refusal to apologise for it has left the Emergency as a question mark on the march of Indian democracy. In order to bring closure to the chapter of Emergency, discussion and deliberation are necessary.
