Clean the mess

This is with reference to your editorial Curb racist behaviour (May 27). Racism runs deep in India not just against African students, but also against its own citizens. The harassment and mental torture meted to north-eastern students studying or living in “mainland” India are increasing. The barbaric attack on Burundi student Yannick Nihangaza in July 2012 and now the brutal murder of the Congolese national are not surprising. Instead of beating its own trumpet of “tolerance”, Indians should first learn to clean up their own backyard.
