The much expected bid to secure membership of the 48-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group hit a dead end as China raked up procedural issues. Thus the dragon left the elephant licking its wounds at Seoul despite the latter’s extraordinary diplomatic push to secure backing for its membership bid. But there’s hope yet with not all our friends (unlike Switzerland) turning their backs on us. The US has repeated its support for India’s membership at all stages. It will, however, have to stop talking and start acting. India’s leadership is advised to take this setback in its stride and concede the round to China.
