Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was back in Pakistan on Wednesday and busy finding a solution to settle the Panama leaks scandal that has jolted his government.

The Prime Minister landed back late on Tuesday night from London and immediately started consulting his aides amid rumours he had gone to the United Kingdom not for medical treatment but to meet Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Asif Ali Zardari.

Mr Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, said he had returned to the country. “A moment of silence for those who claimed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will not return,” she tweeted.

Mr Sharif’s visit to London was heavily criticised by the political parties in the country who claimed that he was going abroad to meet other political leaders.

It should be noted that Mr Sharif decided to visit the United Kingdom for his medical treatment amid the political storm created by Panama Leaks, which stated that his family had offshore wealth.

The Opposition parties have also asked Mr Sharif to step down from the top office.

Reports said, amid growing consensus among opposition parties for probe into Panama Papers revelations through a commission directly supervised by Chief Justice of Pakistan, MR Sharif, may step back from his announced plan of getting the examination of the whole matter by a probe commission under a retired judge of the apex court.

Sources said that initially when some legal aides supported the idea of probe by sitting judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan, it was discarded and hawks in the ruling party attributed the acceptance of Opposition parties’ demand of probe under Chief Justice of Pakistan as weakness of the party.
