Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chief Bilawal Bhutto has called Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a “personal friend” of his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, willing to sacrifice national interests for friendship.

“Nawaz Sharif is a personal friend of Narendra Modi. Pakistan’s foreign policy under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership also reflects his business interests,” he said.

The PPP leader vowed to stand by the “oppressed” in Kashmir. “Whenever I talk about Kashmir, the Indian government and media severely criticise me. But I would never stop supporting the oppressed class there,” he added.

Addressing a public rally in Kotli district of Pakistan-Occupied Kashm-ir, he claimed that Mr Sharif never uttered even a single word against the “atrocities being committed by Indian troops in the Kashmir.”

“Nawaz Sharif, you talk about human rights, but you never raise voice against human rights violations in Kashmir,” he said.

Kashmir, he said, was a symbol of struggle in the entire world. He added that the global community had turned a blind eye towards the Kashmir dispute and stated that unarmed Kashmiris and Palestinians were being subjected to atrocities. Mr Bhutto said that peace in South Asia will also result in peace in the Middle East. He criticised the United Nations for its inability to resolve the Kashmir issue, stating that the United Nations had passed resolutions regarding Kashmir, however, it failed to implement those resolutions.

The PPP chief said Prime Minister Sharif’s government will not be able to complete its constitutional term as the days of the government have been numbered after the onset of the Panama leaks.

“Nawaz Sharif, you step down as Prime Minister till probe into Panama Papers and then you can reassume the office after the completion of the investigation (sic),” he said at the public rally organised in connection with the upcoming state polls.
