Pak restricts hunting for foreign dignitaries

The Pakistan government has asked the foreign office and foreign dignitaries to seek permission from the concerned provincial governments for hunting.

“The provincial governments will be consulted through federal environment ministry for allocating areas for hunting for foreign dignitaries,” a government official said.
The security and camping arrangements are the responsibility of the provincial governments, the government official added.
“Hunting areas may be given to the provincial governments to avoid adverse effect on birds and wildlife,” a government directive said.
The decisions were taken at the meeting of the Inter-Provincial Special Committee constituted by Inter-Provincial Coordination Committee (IPCC) held in Lahore.
The meeting recommended that foreign dignitaries visiting for hunting of Houbara bustard may be requested to carry out developmental and social activities in their areas of allocation.
“The allocation of hunting areas will be done in rational manner in consultation and on the recommendations of the provincial wildlife departments so as to provide resting grounds to the wintering Houbara,” the official said.
He added, “This will help in conservation and preservation of both Houbara Bustard as well as the habitat.”
Mostly Arab rulers and princes come to Pakistan for leisure and hunting.

As a self-confessed hardliner, I must admit that being a part of the team engaged in Indo-Pak Track 2 dialogue has been very interesting.
