The ex-husband of a British-Pakistani woman who was strangled to death in Pakistan last month, on Saturday confessed to the crime.

According to reports, Samia Shahid’s ex-husband Mohammad Shakeel Chaudhry confessed to the police that he strangled her with her own dupatta (scarf). A local court in Jhelum rejected Chaudhry’s bail application and ordered the police to arrest and produce him before the court. Samia Shahid, 28, from Bradford, was strangled to death while visiting her family in northern Punjab last month. Her husband, Syed Mukhtar Kazam, said he believed his wife was killed because her family disapproved of their marriage.

It is alleged that Samia had been tricked into travelling to Pakistan in July and was killed for divorcing her first husband.
