The Opposition parties in Pakistani on Monday could not strike a consensus over demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation in connection with the Panama leaks issue.

Sources said that the political parties have failed to find common ground in seeking Prime Minister’s resignation.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Awami National Party (ANP) and others reportedly did not table any such demand whereas Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-e-Azam) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have demanded the Prime Minister to resign.

Opposition leader in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan, Opposition leader in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah and PTI’s vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi held a meeting to discuss different matters.

The parties are trying to finalise terms of references (TORs) for the commission that would probe the leaks.

The Opposition parties, mainly PTI chairman Imran Khan, had demanded the government to form a judicial commission headed by the Chief Justice.

Sharif family came under fire after Panama-based law firm’s documents were leaked.

However, Mr Sharif on Monday advised the Opposition parties to wait until 2018 to try their luck for power in general election.

“I advise my opponents to wait till 2018 and even beyond it,” Mr Sharif said, claiming that his government had curbed financial and energy crisis. He affirmed the load-shedding and gas shortage would completely end in 2018.

The Premier inaugurated several development projects in Quetta, promising to bring economic stability in the Balochistan province.

The Prime Minister, after performing groundbreaking of gas supply and road projects in the provincial capital, addressed a ceremony at the governor’s house.

“Political stability is vital for progress, so investment is impossible in atmosphere of protest and anarchy,” the PM said, referring to opposition’s protest rallies.
