Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that he would highlight the Kashmir issue at the upcoming session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Mr Sharif was speaking to PoK-based leaders of the All-Parties Hurriyat Confe-rence (APHC) at a meeting held in Muzaffarabad. PoK president Sardar Masood Khan and prime minister Raja Farooq Haider were also present.

“Pakistan will continue to extend moral, diplomatic and political support to Ka-shmiris,” Mr Sharif said.

He said that the alleged “atrocities” in Kashmir by the Indian security forces had “touched extremes”.

“The oppression is destined to end, and truth will prevail,” Mr Sharif said.

The Pakistan PM said the Kashmiris’ demand for their right to self-determination was just, which had also been acknowledged by international community.

He called upon the United Nations to fulfil its obligation in accordance with its own resolutions.

“The movement of Kashmiris will ultimately succeed as the history has precedents that such movements could not be suppressed with oppression,” Mr Sharif said.

He said Pakistan would raise voice for the resolution of Kashmir dispute at all fora.

The APHC leaders thanked the Pakistan Prime Minister for taking them into confidence before his visit to UNGA, said an official statement.

Meanwhile, Army chief Raheel Sharif called on Prime Minister Sharif in Islamabad on Friday.

Matters pertaining to internal and regional security were discussed during the meeting, said an official statement.

Vowing to continue the war against militancy and terrorism, the Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction over security situation of the country, the statement said. He also vowed to take war on terrorism to its logical conclusion.

The meeting came a day after a news was aired regarding postponement of a meeting to review National Action Plan (NAP) due to Prime Minister Sharif‘s visit to the United States.
