Pakistan People’s Party chief Bilawal Bhutto has held Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif responsible for heat-wave deaths in Karachi, saying power supply interruption led to the causalities.

Pakistan People’s Party chief Bilawal Bhutto has held Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif responsible for heat-wave deaths in Karachi, saying power supply interruption led to the causalities.

The young Bhutto, who arrived from Dubai on Saturday, said the Sindh provincial government, led by the PPP, had no authority to ensure power supply for the heat-wave victims.

Talking to Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the Bilawal House on Saturday evening, he said if needed the Sindh government could convert and use the Expo Centre and marriage halls in the city as emergency relief centres for people suffering from heatstroke.

Mr Shah informed the PPP chief that the provincial disaster management authority had established 40 emergency relief centres at different locations for providing necessary first-aid and medical attention to the people affected by heatstroke.

PPP activists, workers of all other political parties, and non-governmental organisations had established similar relief centres in the city and other parts of the province for treating cases of heatstroke, he said. The PPP chief appreciated the efforts of all the political parties and NGOs which had come forward to support the PPP’s provincial government in tackling the emergency.
