A former top American spymaster who headed the CIA during the presidency of Bill Clinton in 1990s on Tuesday joined the presidential campaign of Republican nominee Donald J. Trump.

Such an announcement by James Woolsey, who headed the CIA from 1993 to 1995, is seen as a setback for the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton of the Democratic party.

In a statement issued through the Trump Campaign, Mr Woolsey raised questions on Clinton’s ability to lead the nation.

“Since Clinton left the state department, we have learned that she demonstrated a complete lack of understanding and an inability to lead the agency she headed in such a way as to maintain its mission and security,” he alleged. “Trump understands the magnitude of the threats we face. Bravo Zulu, Trump,” he said.

“I have been a ‘Scoop Jackson’, ‘Joe Lieberman’, Democrat all of my adult life, but I am pleased to be asked to participate with others I respect.”

“Trump’s commitment to reverse the harmful defence Budget cuts signed into law by the current administration, while acknowledging the need for debt reduction, is an essential to reinstate the US’ primacy,” he said.
