The world’s biggest samosa, weighing a whopping 387.7 kilograms, has been made in Maharajganj district.

This massive samosa has broken the record set earlier by Bradford College in United Kingdom where the samosa weighed 110 kilograms.

According to reports, a group of 12 students, led by Ritesh Soni, decided to make the world’s biggest samosa. The process for making India’s quintessential snack was started in a special puja pandal at Gopal Nagar Colony. Thousands of people thronged the venue to witness the record-breaking event.

The boys who accomplished this feat have forwarded a video recording of the event and are now seeking a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Ritesh Soni, 20, who runs a wayside restaurant at Gopal Nagar, said that he was inspired to make the samosa after the world’s largest jalebi was made by some enthusiasts in Maharajganj last year.

Navin Tiwari, another member in the group said that this was their way of earning recognition for their district which faces a lack of basic infrastructure, literacy and electricity.

According to the boys, they started working on the project about a fortnight ago after getting the permission from the local administration. Rs 40,000 were spent in making the samosa.

Most of the group members are in the catering business and pooled in their resources to accomplish the feat.

“It took 90 litres of refined oil, 1.75 quintal wheat flour and 2 quintal potatoes and spices to prepare it. The samosa is 3 metres high and its three sides are 2 metre, 1.5 metre and 1.5 metre. Its radius is around 36 inch”, said Ritesh.

Since the boys did not have a frying pan large enough to fry the snack, they poured hot oil on it till it was perfectly fried.
