A woman in Kanpur district has been awarded an eight-year jail sentence and a fine of Rs 10,000 for abetting the gangrape of a girl who worked in her beauty parlour.

Additional district judge Vishnu Chandra, while announcing the sentence, said that it was rare to find that woman would abet the rape of another woman. The court, while sentencing Shashi Pal, acquitted her daughter from the charges due to lack of evidence.

According to reports, a girl who worked in Shashi Pal’s beauty parlour in Naubasta locality, had filed a complaint that Shashi called her to her house where she and her daughter gave her a soft drink laced with some drug which made her unconscious.

While she was unconscious, she was gangraped by some men. The incident took place in March 2013.
