A united Opposition joined hands to stall the proceedings in the state Assembly on Tuesday over the “unfair tactics” adopted by the Akhilesh government in the recent panchayat elections but the BJP soon disassociated itself by shouting slogans like “SP-BSP-Congress, chor chor mausere bhai” and accusing the three parties too.

The BSP quietly staged a walkout from the state Assembly and the Speaker adjourned the House for about 80 minutes, washing out the entire Question Hour.

Earlier, even before the Assembly convened after a week’s break, the BJP members went into the well of the House carrying banners, denouncing the state government. As soon as the Speaker entered, the BJP members started shouting slogans and were joined by the BSP and Congress members.

Parliamentary affairs minister Azam Khan said that the BJP members were rioters and their Prime Minister had no qualms about meeting a dreaded don.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Dawood Ibrahim in Pakistan.

He should release photographs and videos of his meeting with his counterpart in Pakistan Nawaz Sharif so that the world can see who else was in the room during the meeting. The BJP should also explain its relations with Dawood Ibrahim. This party talks about cow slaughter but its members own slaughter house and are ‘beef masters’ themselves,” he said. BJP leader Suresh Khanna demanded that all panchayat elections should be cancelled and held afresh because the ruling party had indulged in unfair and illegal practices to win the polls.

When the House re-convened, the BJP leader demanded that the parliamentary affairs minister should either submit proof of his allegation against the Prime Minister or apologise for levelling allegations.

The Speaker asked the member to raise the issue under prescribed rules. The BJP then claimed that against the specified 90 days’ sitting of the state Assembly in a year, the UP Assembly had met for 28 days in 2012, 20 days in 2013, 24 days in 2014 and 27 days in 2015.

Mr Azam Khan slammed the BJP for creating a noise over the short assembly session and then disrupting proceedings whenever the house was in session. “The maximum number of disruption has been brought in by the BJP in the house. We understand their feelings because they have faced defeat in Delhi and then in Bihar and are preparing for a similar fate in UP”, he said.
