In a ghastly incident of human sacrifice, a 12-year-old boy was brutally killed in a Chhattisgarh village to “appease” a wealth goddess, the police said.

The police arrested two people in the village of Tunga under Ambikapur district in connection with the incident.

“The arrested duo admitted they killed the boy to appease the deity to end their poverty,” the police said.

Two other accused were absconding. The body was found on May 13 of Suraj Ghabari, resident of Kudrichigar village in Korba district in the state, was found on the bank of Red river in Tunga village on May 13. The boy was missing since May 11.

The police arrested two people, Shiv Charan Paikre and his brother Bharat, residents of Tunga village, in connection with the incident.

Their interrogation had led to disclosure that the boy was killed by them in the intervening night of May 12-13 in their house to invoke blessings of the wealth goddess to remove their poverty.

“They first slit the boy’s throat and then severed his left palm before offering his oozing blood to the deity”, police quoted the arrested duo as saying.

Later, they put the body in a gunny bag and disposed it off in the river bank. Key accused Bifal Pakre and his mother, another accused, were absconding.
