A Chhattisgarh-based NGO lodged a complaint with the Bastar police seeking to book the Booker Prize-winning novelist Arundhati Roy for “denigrating democratic institutions” in her book, Walking With The Comrades.

Sarguja-based Nange Paon Lobbying Initiative (NPLI) convener Rajesh Nange Paon on Saturday lodged the complaint with Bastar superintendent of police Rajendra Narayan Dash seeking action against the celebrated author for abusing democratic institutions like the judiciary, the police and the armed forces in the book. “Ms Roy not only made derogatory remarks against democratic institutions of the country, but also glorified unlawful activities of Naxals in her book,” the NGO convener told said through the phone from town of Sarguja on Sunday.

He also sought action against Penguin Books India for publishing the book.

“It is being brought before your just, kind and vigilant notice that Ms Roy has infringed upon provisions of an established law: has used filthy language for democratic institutions alike the judiciary, the police and the armed forces and glorified the Naxals for unlawful activities, they undertake. She sought to widely communicate with the people about the Naxals and holds their protracted people’s war against democracy fair,” the NGO convener said.

He was associated with “Bachhapn Bachao Andolan”, led by Nobel laureate and child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi, in late 1990s.
