Sunanda probe: No foul play, death due to medication, says Tharoor

The Congress minister was questioned by Delhi Police for over 5 hours.

New Delhi:

A Delhi Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Saturday questioned Shashi Tharoor for over 5 hours in connection with his wife Sunanda Pushkar's death case.

According to reports, Tharoor dismissed any foul play in the death case of his wife. Throughout the probe Tharoor said he did not suspect foul play in the death and claimed that Sunanda died due to medication.

He was also asked about the medicines taken by his wife and who purchased them.

Sunanda, who married Tharoor in 2010, was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a hotel room in Delhi on January 17, 2014.

Tharoor may have to undergo a lie-detector test in the coming weeks and investigators are expected to get the court's permission to conduct a polygraph test.

Earlier, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi had said that Sunanda Pushkar's death was not a natural one.

"One thing is clear that the death was not natural. It was unnatural as per our investigation till now and evidences collected so far. I can say that with certainty," Delhi Police Commissioner Bassi had said.

In January 2015, Delhi Police had registered a case of murder in connection with the death of Sunanda. An AIIMS medical board had found poisoning as reason for her death following which the police had sent her viscera samples to an FBI lab in Washington in 2015.
