Student drugged and raped: DC readers slam Hyderabad cops for inaction
Bangalore: "Hang the Rapist. India wake up for crime against women!!!" That was a comment by the Deccan Chronicle reader, Riz, to a shocking news report on a 20-year-old polytechnic student being allegedly kidnapped and raped by the college canteen owner for almost 17 months in Hyderabad.Ever since the Deccan Chronicle online published the article, reader reactions have been pouring in -- most of them expressing anguish at the apathy of the Hyderabad police in acting on the girl's parents' missing complaint.

Satya Prakash Singh, 34, a native of Bihar, who runs the canteen at TRR College of Technology at Meerpet, allegedly drugged the victim and tied her up in his flat for over a year. The victim alleged that she was drugged by Singh on April 3, 2012, and was taken to his flat at Almasguda, Meerpet, where she was kept. Police arrested Singh after booking a case for abduction and rape on September 14. “I was raped, tortured and drugged by him for one month in a room in his flat. Whenever I became conscious, I shouted for help. Then he would threaten to kill me and torture me more,” said the victim in the complaint. But what was even more shocking was the apathy of police. They once picked Satya Prakash Singh but let him off after questioning. “We took him into custody after we were alerted. He did not admit that he had kidnapped her,” Santoshnagar inspector K.V.M. Prasad said. This very lackdaisal attitude of police has angered the DC readers. Mohammed Khan wrote: "As usual Police of India ** incredible India ** i feel SHAMED when i see people from other nations SAY that LAND OF RAPE!!!"That the police didn't bother to hunt the girl, despite the parents filing a case, has angered many.As one reader put up: " They could not even trace a single girl... Shame on u guys... I feel ashamed to call u "GUYS"".Shaik Isamil wrote: "Were police too busy in Telengana bandh, vehicles check, giving security to ministers."And there is a demand for severe punishment to the police. An anonymous reader wrote: "The accused should be hanged till death, all the co-accused should also be punished....above all the then Inspector of the police station should also be booked for neglecting the case and ripped off his duties!"With the recent death penalty given to the rapists in Delhi gang rape case, DC readers also want the same for Satya Prakash Singh for his ghastly act. Some readers say they are ashamed that India is now referred to as the 'rape land'. Amer Khan says: " Hang the rapist and give justice to the girl. I feel ashamed when people say 'you belong to the rape land." Meanwhle the police have arrested the accused and sent him to judicial custody. So, there is hope for justice, but the demand for justice never dies as DC reader wrote: "Kill the Devil. Give Justice to innocent girl."
