The National Commission for women, along with a battery of lawyers, is preparing a strong reply to Salman Khan on his response over the ‘rape’ remark he made last week.

The National Commission for women, along with a battery of lawyers, is preparing a strong reply to Salman Khan on his response over the ‘rape’ remark he made last week. The NCW feels his reply is too little, too late.

Replying to a question whether the commission has enough powers to take action against the actor, NCW chairperson, Lalitha Kumarmangalam said the NCW will not be taking such remarks lightly, “We will give out details of what we will do tomorrow, our members and lawyers are working on framing a reply. We hardly hear jokes about any other social issue, then why rape. It just shows the patriarchal ideologies rooted in the mindset of people.”

The actor had mailed his reply through a lawyer on Tuesday evening. “The reply has come from his lawyer, which means it is a legal reply. So we can’t just reply off the cuff,” Ms Kumaramangalam said.

Meanwhile, not satisfied either with the reply sent by Bollywood star Salman Khan in connection with his controversial ‘rape’ remarks, the Mahara-shtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) on Wednesday issued a summons to the actor asking him to appear before the Commission on July 7.

In a recent interview Salman had said, “When I used to walk out of the ring, after the shoot (of Sultan), I used to feel like a raped woman. I could not walk straight.”

The actor’s comment proved controversial and sparked outrage in women’s groups. Following this The Women’s Commission, took suo motu notice and wrote to the actor demanding a public apology within 7 days. Instead, the actor sent a letter through his lawyer saying the National Commission for Women (NCW) is already hearing this matter in Delhiand hence this Commission shouldnot hear the same issue simultaneously.

In New Delhi, without revealing details of the actor’s email reply, the women’s commission said, “Salman Khan has sent a reply and it is not apologetic in tenor. We now need to decide what we are going to do next. We have tolook at both what comes under our mandate and what are the legalities involved.

We are not going to give out the details of his reply now. We need to first go through it in detail, along with our lawyers. Only then, will both his reply and what we are going to do next will be made public,” she said.
