: Terming it unconstitutional, the Supreme Court, on Monday questioned Sabarimala temple authorities why women were not permitted inside the shrine.

The temple, a prominent pilgrimage site among Hindus, does not permit women aged between 10 and 50.

Asking the Kerala government to submit an affidavit regarding the matter, the court said “Can entry of women be regulated on basis of any criteria other than religion ”

The SC also asked the board which manages the temple, the Travancore Devaswom Board, to clarify its stance on the issue.
