A day after Assam CM Tarun Gogoi accused some Hindi-speaking BJP leade-rs of “invading” Assam, su-spected Ulfa rebels opened indiscriminate fire on Hin-di-speaking workers of a stone crusher unit at Namrup in Dibrugarh district, leaving two critically wounded.

Mr Gogoi spoke to senior Army and police officers of the Unified Command Tuesday and directed them to take action against Ulfa and NSCN (K) rebels suspected of being involved in the firing. The police said five gunmen with their faces covered came to the stone crusher unit in Namrup Monday night and started firing on the workers, most of whom were Hindi-speaking people.

Two persons, identified as Sanjay Bharati and Gopal Sahu, sustained bullet injuries and were rus-hed to Assam Medical Coll-ege and Hospital, where their condition is critical.
