UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Saturday that there was no competition for the Samajwadi Party in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Saturday that there was no competition for the Samajwadi Party in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

Speaking at a function in Kaushambhi district on Saturday, the chief minister said that other parties were competing for the second and third position after the elections.

“The Samajwadi Party is at number one and others are far behind. We are all set to form the next government and those who claim that they are competing with us are actually competing for the second and third positions,” he said in an obvious reference to BJP president Amit Shah’s statement in which he had said that the SP was the only rival that the BJP had in UP.

Mr Yadav said that he did not have faith in any of the poll surveys because majority of them had gone wrong where his party was concerned.

“We have done so much work and people are appreciating our initiatives. We have done more work in four years compared to the work done by others in 40 years,” he stated.

Mr Yadav said that rival parties only spoke of the law and order situation in the state but conveniently forgot the fact that the crime situation in UP is better compared to several other states. “The Opposition does not want to see the kind of development we have done. The road connectivity has improved rapidly and every district is being connected with four-lane roads. Our development has been inclusive and all sections have benefited from our schemes,” he explained.
