As Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav made desperate attempts to broker peace among warring factions of his family, his cousin and expelled party leader Ram Gopal Yadav remained on a belligerent track, saying that the SP had no future without Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and the party supremo was “jealous” of his own son.

At an impromptu press briefing here, Ram Gopal said: “Without Akhilesh, there is no SP” and his “only aim” was to ensure that Akhilesh becomes UP chief minister again. He also said that there was no question of him quitting the Rajya Sabha.

Ram Gopal had been expelled from the SP by Mulayam’s brother Shivpal Yadav in a tit for tat action after four ministers of his camp, including himself, were expelled from the government by the chief minister. “Every father wants that his son should do better than him. But here the opposite is happening. This should not happen. This is sad,” Ram Gopal said.

He also took potshots at Amar Singh, saying it was “nonsensical” for Mulayam to say that he was saved from CBI cases. “Jadugars (sorcerers) have poisoned Netaji’s mind.”

“What is so special about the man who was himself out in the wilderness for six years”.

“He (Mulayam) should have thought 100 times before saying that Amar Singh saved him from going to jail. It means that Amar Singh has either managed either the court or the CBI,” he said.

“Some leaders of SP are criminals in the eyes of the people. You will see this in the days to come,” Ram Gopal said, again hinting at Amar Singh.

Both Ramgopal and Akhilesh have blamed Amar Singh for the rift in the party while the rival faction led by Shivpal has claimed that the Uttar Pradesh chief minister wanted to form a separate party.

The SP supremo, in a press conference in Lucknow, however, refused to react on Ramgopal’s comments saying: “I don’t give any importance to what Ram Gopal Yadav says, his words don’t matter anymore”.

The Yadav family feud escalated and the party was pushed to the brink of a split, when Shivpal, who was earlier sacked by Akhilesh, said on Sunday that Ram Gopal had been working for the BJP and had created groups within to divide the party.

Shivpal also accused Ramgopal of creating a group of goons who trouble people and create nuisance and added that he has also been involved with BJP to save his son.

In a scathing attack against Ram Gopal, Shivpal also said that ”Ramgopal has always misused the name of Netaji and is involved with corrupt people. He betrayed us to save his son and daughter-in-law from a CBI case, he tried to tarnish party’s image.”
